22-year-old Solomon Kofi Ofori, has been sentenced to ten years imprisonment by the Donyina Circuit Court for robbing his co-tenant of a Tecno Spark 8 mobile phone, valued at GHC1,800 and a bag valued at GHC350.
The accused was found guilty of robbery, contrary to Section 149 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).
The court, presided over by Her Honour Aliata Saeed (Mrs) on Tuesday, September 16, 2025 handed the sentence to Solomon Kofi Ofori who pleaded guilty (voluntarily) to the charge.
According to the prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Gifty Asante, both the accused and the complainant, Richard Prah, a Consultant, are co-tenants at Appiadu-Kokoben.
On Tuesday, September 9, 2025 at 8pm, the complainant returning from work was accosted by the accused, who had covered his face and wielding a knife and a two-pointed iron rod, demanding the complainant to relinquish his phone and bag.
Later that evening, the complainant lodged a complaint at the Appiadu Police Station that proceeded to arrest the accused on Wednesday, September 10, 2025 at 10pm.
Upon the apprehension, a bag (different from the stolen one) was found with the accused and when a search was conducted, the said phone was found along with a mask, phone charger, knife and the two-pointed iron rod.
In his caution statement to the police, Ofori admitted to the offence.
