The Teachers and Educational Workers’ Union (TEWU) has warned some members of the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) to desist from intimidating its members to work despite the strike.
“Information reaching us is that some members of the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS), are intimidating our non-teaching staff, especially the kitchen staff and forcing them to remain at work,” the Union said.
A statement signed by Mr Mark Dankyira Korankye, the General Secretary of the Union to the Ghana News Agency described the actions of CHASS members as very unfortunate
“We are by this medium also telling all the non-Teaching staff to withdraw from all services and stay at home until they hear from us,” it said.
The Union requested the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service to call CHASS to order and asked them to refrain from the threats and intimidations “as we all seek the appropriate response from Government on our request.”.
“We, in the leadership of the Union, do not want to have any confrontations with anybody as far as this Industrial Action is concerned.
“No teacher is being forced and threatened to remain in the classroom, so we do not see why the non-teaching staff are being treated this way,” he said.
Four Unions in education on Monday July 4, 2022, embarked on an Industrial action to cover their Cost- of -Living Allowance.
The Unions are Ghana National Association of Teachers, National Association of Graduate Teachers, TEWU and Coalition of Concerned Teachers.
