Use appropriate channels to challenge outcome of Dec polls -Otumfuo
The Overlord of Ashanti, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has urged the political parties to use the right channels in the event they attempt to challenge the outcome of the December 7, 2020 polls.
According to Opemsuo, Ghana has structures that address electoral misunderstandings, “so when we go to the polls and a party is not happy about the outcome of the elections, we should use the right procedure in addressing this challenge.”
The Golden Stool Occupant made this admonition when Vice President Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia paid a courtesy call on him at the Manhyia Palace yesterday, ahead of a four-day working visit to the Ashanti Region.
Otumfuo, who welcomed the Veep and his entourage, underscored the fact that about five countries in Africa would go to the polls in the next two months.
“As we sit here, we do not know how volatile the situation in our neighboring Ivory Coast is,” he noted, adding that the political climate in Guinea was not that clear, but, by the grace of God and the prayers of Nananom, Ghana has been basking in a peaceful environment.
Osei-Tutu II, has, therefore, urged Ghanaians to keep praying for the country, adding that he knows his grandchildren who are into politics would not fight before, during, and after the December polls in Ghana.
Preaching peace to political actors at the Manhyia Palace, King Osei Tutu II told Dr. Bawumia that Ghanaians can know the work that NPP has executed by propagating their works to the populace amidst patiently showcasing them.
He told the Veep and his entourage that democracy was not about fighting, but all about political parties propagating their messages to Ghanaians for the populace to access them.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II said: “This is not about fighting or slander.”
He noted that when the campaign is based on issues, Ghanaians would brainstorm on the right party to lead the country.
“If you tell Ghanaians about policies your party intends to implement when voted into power, Ghanaians will think about it and make a choice on the day of voting,” Otumfuo stated.
Declaring his big heart for all political actors and the need to eschew violence in Ghana before, during, and after the polls, Otumfuo noted: “I am praying for you all; we do not want a fight; we do not have any other country apart from Ghana.”
Earlier, Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia told Otumfuo Osei Tutu II that he was on a four-day working visit to the Ashanti Region, and as result of that, he came to pay a courtesy on him, before he starts.
He continued that the NPP wants Ghanaians to know what works the party has executed, under the leadership of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, after which they would plead with the good people of the Ashanti Region to give Akufo-Addo another four years to do more for Ghana.
