‘Shoddy’ road contractors to be terminated -Minister
Road contractors in Ghana have been warned to desist from engaging in shoddy works or will have their contracts terminated.
The Roads and Highways Minister, Kwasi Amoako Atta, at a press conference in the Eastern Regional capital, Koforidua, on Sunday, at the Regional Coordinating Council Conference Room has disclosed.
The media encounter, which was part of a two-day tour to access road projects in the area, was to give an insight on road projects undertaken in the region by the government.
Mr. Amoako Atta, in his speech, challenged road contractors to do due diligence to work given them, or risk losing their contracts.
“Road construction is not a child play, so I am advising anyone who intends to tender in the application, to ensure they are financially sound, [and] with good experience, because I, as the sector minister, would not condone any shoddy work by any contractor. As we went around, you can attest to the fact that almost all the contractors are doing a great job, so we will not allow a few bad nuts to tarnish the image of hardworking ones,” the Minister told the media.
The Atiwa West Member of Parliament, however, assured residents of the region that most of the bad roads had already been given on contract, with others going through the various stages of engagements.
