Rawlings reports fake account to police
Kimathi Agyeman-Rawlings, son of former President Rawlings has reported to the Cyber Crime Unit of Ghana Police, a fake Twitter account that has been opened in his name by some unscrupulous people.
According to the Office of former President Jerry John Rawlings, same has also been reported to the company, Twitter.
The Office, in a statement issued and signed by the Executive Secretary, Kobina Andoh Amoakwa, indicated that the said Twitter handle is fake and must be disregarded.
It said: “The attention of the Office of Former President Rawlings has been drawn to the creation of fake Twitter account that is publishing falsehoods attributed to the son of the former President, Kimathi Agyeman-Rawlings.”
The Office said the fake Twitter handle @KimathiRawlings was not created by Kimathi Agyeman-Rawlings and all posts on the handle are not attributed to him.
Therefore, the statement urged all member of the public to disregard any publication emanating from the said account and strongly warned persons who dabbled in impersonation through the creation of such fake accounts to desist from the practice.
The Office further gave strong warning to entities behind the creation of the said Twitter handle that “we will investigate, identify and have them face the law for such criminal activities.”
In addition, it pleaded with the public that these are difficult times for the family hence must respect the family’s privacy and desist from actions that bring the image of the family into disrepute.
The fake Twitter handle, which describes the owner as Oil & Gas Analysis, politician, son of former president and warrior on life mission, has already attracted about 3,202 followers.
