Railway Workers Union gives Ntarmah 4yrs more as Gen Secretary
The Ghana Railway Workers Union (GRWU), last Friday, held it 2nd Quadrennial Delegates Conference in Takoradi, where the General Secretary of the Union, Godwill Natrmah, was given four more years to do more.
Godwill Ntarmah, who was elected General Secretary of the Union in 2016, went unopposed for the position.
The decision by the delegates to confirm Godwill Ntarmah to continue as Chief Executive Officer of the Union apparently stemmed from the good work of the chief scribe since he took over the office exactly four years ago.
In the Constitution of the GRWU, it was mandatory for the Union to go to congress every four years, take stock, and elect executives to steer its affairs.
It must be put on record that following the election of Godwill Ntarmah as the Union Secretary in 2016, other satellite unions in the struggling Ghana Railway Company came together to form the GRWU.
It was, therefore, not surprising that the delegates, who wield voting rights, decided to endorse Godwill Ntarmah, thereby, giving him another four years.
Before the election, the Trades Union Congress (TUC) General Secretary, Dr. Yaw Baah, had commended Godwill Ntarmah, extolling his good work.
The theme for the conference was ‘Revamping the Rail sector, role of stakeholders,’ and saw the Minister of Railway Development in attendance.
As characteristic of railway workers, the conference did not start without the singing of workers’ song of dedication.
