Ghanaian dancehall artiste Shatta Wale has revealed that he is preparing for a grand white wedding with his fiancée, Maali.

Speaking on PrimeTime with George Quaye on Joy Prime television, the ‘Street Crown’ hitmaker said although he has already performed some customary rites, he is saving towards an elaborate church wedding.

When asked about his marital status, Shatta responded, “I am married already. Or is it because I have not said it?”

He explained that he has met Maali’s family and received their blessing.

“I felt the only appropriate thing I have done with Maali is meeting her parents with a couple of people and her father has really accepted me,” he said.

He added that he presented drinks and other items as part of the traditional introduction.

The artiste said he intends to hold a church ceremony when the time is right. “I am saving for that. I am saving for my grand wedding,” he noted.

Shatta Wale and Maali, whose full name is Maali Della Tetteh, have been publicly linked since early 2023. Their relationship gained attention after the musician released a song titled Maali, which he later said was inspired by her. The couple share a child together, a fact that Shatta has proudly spoken about in several interviews, describing fatherhood with Maali as one of the most grounding experiences of his life.

The two often share affectionate moments on social media, with Shatta describing Maali as his “peace” and “biggest motivation.”

KSM blames political fundraising for corruption

0
KSM

Celebrated media personality and satirist Kwaku Sintim Misa popularly known as KSM has criticized Ghana’s political party financing structure, calling it one of the biggest enablers of corruption in the country.

The veteran host dissected how political parties raise funds during campaigns, arguing that the current system virtually guarantees corruption in government.

“Political parties survive on money from people who donate to the party,” KSM explained on the KSM.

“They pump in so much money to help the party win. That alone is corruption.”

He said once a party wins power, it owes loyalty not to citizens but to the financiers who bankrolled its victory.

“If someone donates big money to your campaign and you win, how do you go after that same person when he’s caught in a corruption scandal?” he asked.

KSM further hinted that some individuals implicated in corruption-related investigations might have been major donors to the ruling parties.

“Right now I’m hearing, and these are just allegations, that some of the people charged in corruption cases actually contributed bigly, as Trump would say, to the campaigns of those in power,” he remarked.

The broadcaster said this cycle of financial dependence undermines justice and accountability.    “That’s why corruption thrives. You can’t fight corruption with a system that rewards it,” KSM concluded.

CEO of NYA, Medikal, other celebrities lead fight against drug abuse

The Chief Executive Officer of the National Youth Authority (NYA), Osman Ayariga, has cautioned young people across Ghana to avoid substance abuse and embrace positive lifestyle choices.

Osman Ayariga made the call during the Leavers Party in the Park, an event organised by High School Clique and GLE Connect, where he joined hundreds of young people in an engaging outreach session aimed at promoting awareness on the dangers of drug and substance abuse.

Speaking passionately, the NYA boss emphasised that the fight against drug misuse, especially among the youth, requires continuous education, collaboration, and responsible decision-making.

“No to substance abuse! Red means stop! Stay away from drugs!” he declared, echoing the slogan of the campaign.

In a post shared on his Facebook page after the event, Osman Ayariga expressed gratitude to the artistes and influencers who lent their voices to the cause, including popular rapper Medikal and his team.

“Our campaign against substance abuse took us to the Leavers Party in the Park. Thanks to all the musicians and celebrities who endorsed the campaign against substance abuse—most especially Red!” he wrote.

The “Red Means Stop” initiative forms part of the NYA’s broader efforts to combat the rising menace of opioid and drug abuse in Ghana.

The campaign aims to sensitise young people on the devastating health, social, and legal consequences of drug addiction, while encouraging them to pursue healthier, purpose-driven lifestyles.

Osman Ayariga reminded the youth that every choice they make today determines the quality of their future.

“Drugs destroy dreams. You are too valuable to waste your potential. Choose life, choose purpose, and say a firm no to drugs,” he urged.

As the campaign gains momentum, the NYA has reaffirmed its commitment to work with schools, youth groups, and community leaders to spread the message—Red Means Stop: Say No to Drugs, Say Yes to Life.

Raymond Archer is now my best friend– Shatta Wale praises EOCO boss

Shatta Wale and Raymond Archer

Shatta Wale has described investigative journalist Raymond Archer as his “best friend,” crediting him for helping to educate Ghanaians about the importance of buying vehicles from legitimate sources.

In an interview on Prime Time on JoyPrime, the Dancehall Artiste reflected on his past arrest and said he now views the experience as a divine lesson rather than a misfortune.

“Raymond Archer is now my best friend because I feel God sent him to educate the people of Ghana — and that’s exactly what he did,” Shatta Wale said.

“He taught us how to buy cars appropriately and from the right sources. Yes, buyer beware. That’s one major problem we’ve solved in this country.”

The ‘Melissa’ hitmaker went on to acknowledge that many people might still associate Archer with his arrest, but he insists that everything happened for a reason.

“Maybe you might think he arrested me and blah blah blah. But all that he did was God-ordained, you know what I mean? He’s really opened our eyes to certain things,” he said.

According to Shatta Wale, the experience has inspired him to be more cautious with his own purchases and to encourage young people to adopt the same mindset.

Shatta Wale’s Lamborghini Urus was linked to a $4.7 million scam and was confiscated before later being returned following legal proceedings initiated by US authorities.

Shatta Wale was detained by EOCO on Wednesday, 20 August, 2025 as part of investigations into alleged financial irregularities connected to the yellow Lamborghini. He was subsequently granted bail the following evening.

His lawyer, Cephas Boyuo, confirmed that the initial bail sum of GH₵10 million was reduced to GH₵5 million, with two sureties required.

“As part of the bail conditions, he is to report to EOCO three times a week,” Mr Boyuo explained.

Stonebwoy’s lyric, “My property no go lock for EOCO,” has since dominated online discussions, with many interpreting it as a pointed dig at his rival.

The song, featured on Stonebwoy’s new EP, ‘The Torcher’, explores themes of resilience, integrity and triumph, though this line has overshadowed much of the wider message.

Madagascar’s new army ruler to be sworn in as Rajoelina confirms departure

Madagascar new army ruler Colonel Michael Randrianirina

Madagascar‘s new military leader, who came to power on the back of a popular rebellion, has announced that he will be sworn in as the country’s president, defying the decision of the African Union (AU) to suspend the island nation’s membership.

The military seized power, forcing President Andry Rajoelina to flee the country last week. Colonel Michael Randrianirina announced late on Wednesday that he will take his oath as the country’s new leader on Friday, saying the High Constitutional Court will perform the ceremony.

“Colonel Michael Randrianirina will be sworn in as the President for the Refoundation of the Republic of Madagascar during a formal hearing,” the statement read.

The announcement throws the country deeper into a constitutional crisis, as Rajoelina has refused to renounce his position as president and earlier ordered the dissolution of the National Assembly. He had also accused the assembly of colluding with Randrianirina to mount the military takeover.

In a statement to the AFP news agency late on Wednesday, Rajoelina said he left the country between October 11 and 12 after “explicit and extremely serious threats were made against the life of the Head of State”.

According to news reports, Rajoelina was evacuated on Sunday on board a French military plane. On Monday, Rajoelina said he had taken refuge in a “safe place” without giving further details.

Rajoelina has remained silent about the possibility of returning to the country.

Randrianirina said earlier that the military had taken power and dissolved all institutions except the National Assembly.

Clashes between police and Gen Z protesters in Peru leave one dead

Police and Gen Z protesters clash

Clashes between anti-government protesters and riot police in the Peruvian capital, Lima, have left a 32-year-old man dead and more than 100 people injured, including many police officers.

The protests come less than a week after José Jerí was sworn in as the interim president following the impeachment of his predecessor in office, Dina Boluarte.

Wednesday’s demonstrations were organised by mainly young Peruvians who demand that the country’s political class do more to combat high levels of crime and corruption.

President Jerí said the protest had been infiltrated by criminals set on causing chaos and launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the protester’s death.

He wrote on X that he “regretted the death” of Eduardo Ruiz Sáenz, but did not give further details as to what caused it.

Ruth Luque, a left-wing member of Congress, meanwhile said that “preliminary information” indicated the hip hop artist had been killed by a bullet wound to the chest.

Luque posted a photo of herself on social media in which she can be seen speaking to a member of staff at the hospital to which many of those injured in the clashes were taken.

Local media quoted witnesses who said they saw the musician being shot by a man they accused of being a plainclothes police officer.

President Jerí said an investigation would be launched “to determine objectively what happened and who is responsible”.

The protesters also demanded that the government do more to combat corruption and crime, specifically a wave of extortions which has seen bus and taxi drivers threatened by gangs.

Kenya police fire shots and tear gas at crowds gathered to see body of ex-PM Odinga

The body of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga

Huge crowds of mourners in Kenya fled screaming after police fired gunshots and tear gas in a stadium where they had gathered to see the body of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

Several people at the arena, located in the capital Nairobi, were reportedly injured in the chaos as security officers sought to disperse the surging crowds.

It is not yet clear whether the police were using live ammunition or rubber bullets.

Odinga’s body was flown back from India, where he died on Wednesday morning. Thousands of supporters had earlier travelled to the country’s main airport to receive the coffin, in an outpouring of grief that forced a brief halt to flights.

The authorities said mourners had gained access to restricted areas, prompting a “precautionary closure” that lasted about two hours. From the airport, thousands of people moved in a procession to escort the vehicle carrying the body to the stadium, about 10km (six miles) from the city centre.

Because of the unexpectedly large crowds, the public viewing ceremony for Odinga’s body was moved to Nairobi’s Moi International Sports Centre in the Kasarani neighbourhood, rather than inside the parliament building where it was initially scheduled to take place.

The convoy arrived to a packed stadium, with more people waiting outside.

Minutes afterwards, a large crowd breached a gate in the arena, prompting the police to fire tear gas. Masses of mourners rushed towards the exits in response.

A BBC reporter at the scene also saw men in civilian clothing beating protesters with batons.

At least three people were visibly injured and one had a serious head wound, the AFP news agency reported.

After the chaos settled, government officials and dignitaries were able to observe the coffin. A public viewing then began in the evening.

MI5 chief ‘frustrated’ over collapse of China spy case

0
Head of MI5 Sir Ken McCallum

Chinese state operatives present a daily national security threat to the UK, the head of MI5 Sir Ken McCallum has said. In a speech, he said MI5 had intervened operationally to disrupt Chinese activity of national security concern in the past week.

Addressing a row over the collapse of a case involving alleged spying on behalf of China in the UK, Sir Ken said the alleged activity was disrupted by MI5 and that it was “frustrating when prosecutions fall through”.

The government and the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) are facing questions over the collapse of the case. The CPS dropped the case last month after deciding the evidence did not show China was a threat to national security.

But witness statements from the UK’s deputy national security adviser Matthew Collins – published late on Wednesday – are clear that the Chinese are carrying out spying operations against the UK, raising questions for the government and the CPS about why the prosecutions did not go ahead.

In the documents, he said China was carrying out “large scale espionage” against the UK and was “the biggest state-based threat to the country’s economic security”.

Sir Ken described Mr Collins as a “man of high integrity and a professional of considerable quality”.

In his speech, Sir Ken said “Chinese state actors” presented a threat to UK national security but added that the “overall balance” of the UK’s relationship with China was “a matter for the government”.

“When it comes to China, the UK needs to defend itself resolutely against threats and seize the opportunities that demonstrably serve our nation,” he said.

The Conservatives have accused the government of allowing the spy case to collapse to avoid jeopardising economic relations with China.

Why Napping Is Good For You

0

When Should You Nap?

To get the most benefits out of a nap, you need to time it right. Most people will find an afternoon snooze to be the most natural and helpful. Some say sleep is better between 2 and 3 p.m., when humans naturally have a dip in alertness. The time that works best for you will depend on how rested you are to begin with. If you’re well-rested, a slightly later nap is better. If you’re behind on sleep, you’ll want to nap earlier.

A Nap a Day?

Napping isn’t just for babies. Studies show that an afternoon nap is great for adults, too. There’s no need to feel lazy for indulging in daytime sleep. A short nap in the mid-afternoon can boost memory, improve job performance, lift your mood, make you more alert, and ease stress. Cozy up to these nap benefits.

It Can Improve Your Memory

Studies have shown that sleep plays an important role in storing memories. A nap can help you remember things learned earlier in the day as much as a full night’s sleep. Napping works to keep you from forgetting things like motor skills, sense perception, and verbal recall, too

It May Lift Your Mood

If you’re feeling down, try taking a nap to lift your spirits. Napping, or even just resting for an hour without falling asleep, can brighten your outlook. Experts say relaxation that comes from lying down and resting is a mood booster, whether you fall asleep or not.

Naps are Better Than Caffeine

If you’re feeling tired but have work or studying to get done, you may be better off taking a nap than sipping a coffee. Compared to caffeine, napping can bring better memory and learning.

Long Night Ahead? A Nap Can Help

If you know you won’t get much sleep for a night or two (due to travel, for example) you’re better off preparing with a nap ahead of time than powering through with caffeine. The longer the nap, the better. If you have to resort to caffeine, drinking small amounts often is better than one large cup of joe.

Naps Can Help You Sleep Better at Night

Although it may seem illogical, taking a nap during the day can help older adults improve sleep at night. Studies show a 30-minute nap between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. combined with moderate exercise, like a walk and stretching in the evening, helps improve nighttime sleep. Mental and physical health can get better, as well.

They Can Ease Stress

If you’re under a lot of pressure, a nap can release stress and improve your immune health. Experts believe that a 30-minute nap can do the trick.

They’re Good for Your Heart

A nap can even help your ticker. A study found that people who napped for 45 to 60 minutes had lower blood pressure after going through mental stress. So a nap can help your body recover from pressure-filled situations.

Need to Be More Alert? Nap

If you start to feel a bit sleepy right after lunch, you’re not alone. The post-lunch struggle is real. A 20-minute nap can help you battle heavy eyelids.

Small Naps Bring Big Benefits

A nap as short as 10 minutes can be beneficial, but keep your nap to 30 minutes or less so you don’t wake up feeling more tired. That grogginess you can feel after a nap is called sleep inertia. The longer you nap, the more likely you are to have that feeling. The worse it is, the more time you’ll need to wake up and transition back to work.

They Can Make You More Creative

Ever wake up with a great idea? REM sleep, which typically starts 70 to 90 minutes after you fall asleep, activates parts of your brain associated with imagery and dreaming. A nap with REM sleep can help you combine ideas in new ways to come up with answers.

They Can Help Your Little Ones, Too

Many preschool-age children stop napping long before they enter kindergarten. Fact is, naps are critical for learning and development at that age. Children who nap regularly are better able to recall things they learned. Since short-term memory stores are limited at that age, younger kids need more frequent sleep. It’s an important part of how the brain hangs on to memories.

Make Them a Habit

While certain benefits of napping can be had by anyone, there’s some evidence that naps only improve certain types of learning when the person takes them regularly. This includes the ability to tell the difference between similar things like images or textures.

Living At Peace With One Another

0
Dr. Joyce Rosalind Aryee, Executive Director, Salt and Light Ministries

“Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse.  Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn.  Live in harmony with one another.  Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position.  Do not be conceited.  Do not repay anyone evil for evil.  Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everybody.

If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.  Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written:  “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord.  On the contrary: “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink.  In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.”  Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” – Romans 12:14-21 (NIV)

God calls us to be actively involved in ensuring peace in our homes, in our communities and in our nation.  As far as God is concerned, His people are family and though families have differences, there is always a bond of LOVE which keeps family members together – a love given by God through the Holy Spirit. God has poured His love in us – Romans 5:5b.  Love spawns because love wants to ensure the well-being of the object of love.

Peace must always be understood in the context of true reconciliation because peace springs from reconciliation.  Reconciling is making peace.  The Hebrew word which translates peace – SHALLOM refers to the “complete well-being God offers to the individual, a city or a country including its material prosperity and physical safety.”

God is very concerned about the physical safety of the people He has created and even more so for those He has redeemed as His own because it is His will in Christ Jesus that such people become His agents of reconciliation and peace  –  2 Cor. 5:18-19.

We cannot talk about peace without talking about reconciliation.  For in order to have peace we must do way with enmity – hatred to one another. Reconciliation means bringing back together again, restoring relations between people, making peace between disputing people.  This is the work the Lord Jesus Christ has done for us.  Through His sacrifice on the cross He has atoned for our sins and brought us back to God.  He gives us the mandate to be His representatives on earth to help with God’s agenda of reconciliation.

We are to be dependable, truthful and upright, just as God is. This is particularly important for rulers who are essentially God’s representatives on earth. When rulers fail to manifest God’s character their failure becomes evident in bad governance and bad leadership.  Africa seems to hold the championship for that.

We cannot allow the relative peace we have been enjoying to fall apart.  The question is:     What am I doing to ensure that I live at peace with others?  What will you do?  What will we do directly and indirectly? As individuals, Jesus enjoins us to be peace makers – “blessed are the peace makers for they will be called the sons of God” – Matt. 5:9 (NIV)

We need to pray for the spirit of wisdom ad mediation;

We need to actively play a part in letting people understand the ruling from the Supreme Court; We need to report those who refuse to obey the law – no one is above the law;

The Church has a major role to play!  God has given us a platform, and for that I commend all Church leaders and leaders of other faiths.

The Task for the Body of Christ

The Body of Christ is mandated to live out and proclaim the mission and message of Jesusour Messiah to the whole world.  He has entrusted us with a ministry of reconciliation – 2

Cor. 5:18-21 and thus, we Christians must ultimately be concerned about matters of justice and peace.  These virtues must first of all be apparent within the Christian community, which should be characterised by love, fellowship, affection, mercy, like-mindedness, agreement, selfishness and humility – Phil. 2:14-16a

But Christians must always remember that God’s truth, peace and justice as revealed by the cross of Christ are intended not only for the church and believers, but also for the entire world.  We are called not merely to believe in peace and justice but to work to achieve them for everyone without any distinction or discrimination.  Peace-making is thus, an important

Christian virtue.

Like Jesus, Christians must do works of love and mercy and seek justice for everyone,

whatever the cost – Isaiah 11:1-5; 61:1-3; Luke 4:18-19.  Christians must be compassionate in order to see and hear he cry of the oppressed and the downtrodden and must identify

with just and righteous causes.  The greed and selfishness of individuals and groups need to be exposed and condemned in light of both biblical teachings and the values, mores and

norms of our nation.

In the final analysis, it is God who makes kings.  As John the Baptist said, we cannot have

what we have not been given from above – John 3:27

Political power is ultimately about SELFLESS Service. The position of Head of State is even more crucial!  It is God who wants a representative for Ghana.  As human beings, all we can do is to continue to trust the Lord.  We will not always understand His ways but we know one thing, He knows what He is doing and even when we cannot trace His hand, …..

Stay blessed!
