Manso, Techiman bullion robber smoked-out

A crack team from the Police Headquarters Anti Armed Robbery Unit on Tuesday ferreted out a notorious armed robber, Kojo Ketewa, aka ‘Ade3 Y3 D3’, from his hideout at Duaso in the Upper Denkyira West District of the Central Region.
Ketewa, a galamsey boy cum armed robber, who had been on the radar of the dreaded squad was allegedly connected to two bullion robbery incidents in Techiman and Manso, near Kumasi.
In both onslaughts, the specie-duty (police men escorting money) were either killed, badly wounded and their AK 47 Assault Rifles taken away.
The Chronicle’s investigation established that prior to his capture, ‘Ade3 Y3 D3’, literally teased out the team to his comfort zone at a galamsey terrain, where he used empty and water filled pits as shields against the arresting police squad.
The special squad, however, surmounted the obstacles to pin him to the ground. The Chronicle gathered that on the way Accra, the suspect attempted to test the powers of alleged juju he was using, by jumping from the vehicle into the bush. It took the squad close to 30 minutes in the semi deciduous forest to recapture the fugitive.
The Chronicle sources at the police command intimated that the elite Anti Armed Robbery Unit was activated to search and locate ‘Ade3 Y3 D3’, whose movements came under close observation after leading gangsters to rob a gold dealership shop at Duaso.
The gang in that escapade robbed the dealer of two kilos of gold and GHC70,000 (Seventy thousand Ghana Cedis) cash.
According to sources, electronically assisted investigation, coupled with human intelligence traced the robbery to Kojo Ketewa and he was arrested at his Duaso self-created haven.
Meanwhile, the following is how The Chronicle broke the news about the Manso bullion robbery in September 2020;
A bullion van carrying an unspecified amount of money from Manso Asaaman to Kumasi in the Ashanti Region came under attack last week Friday by armed robbers who succeeded in seizing money packaged in two metal boxes.
This was after they had killed the cashier accompanying the van and also disarmed the two policemen escorting the vehicle, and took away their fully loaded rifles. Each magazine of the stolen rifle was loaded with 30 rounds of ammunition.
Information gathered by The Chronicle from has it that on the fateful day, at about 14:30hrs, the bullion van which was shuttling between Manso Asaaman and its environs to some banks in Kumasi, came under armed attack at Manso Mem Junction.
The Toyota Hilux bullion van, with registration number GE 3978-20, driven by Antwi Bosiako of Agate Mabot Security Company, had two armed policemen, No. 36699 Sergeant Enock Kwame Teye and No 42820 Cpl Felix Agyei Agyeman, both from the Kumasi Central Band Unit, as escorts.

At the MansoMem junction, seven men, four wearing facemasks wielding AK47 assault rifles, and the remaining three armed with pump action guns, opened fire indiscriminately on the bullion van. After subduing the armed policemen and killing the cashier on the spot, they carried away both loaded rifles with 30 rounds of ammo in each magazine, and an unspecified amount of money in two metal boxes.

The driver of the bullion van, Antwi Bosiako, and Cpl Agyei Agyeman, who sustained gunshot wounds were rushed to the St Martin’s Hospital for treatment. The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Ashanti Regional Police Command, ASP Godwin Ahianyo, confirmed the robbery when contacted by The Chronicle. He revealed that the Regional Command had taken over the case, but no arrest has been made.
