His Excellency Edward Boateng, Ghana’s Ambassador to the Republic of the People of China, has advocated that People Living with Disabilities (PLDs) be given equal opportunities in the job market.

According to him, giving them opportunities with tax exemptions, and making the requisite resources available to them, including training programmes would go a long way to get them of the streets and begging. .

The envoy made the appeal at a thanksgiving and end of the year gathering organised by Grateful Hearts Disabilities Association, a New Patriotic Party (NPP) Persons Living with Disability wing in Kumasi.

His Excellency Edward Boateng, Patron of the Association, expressed the need to prioritise the interest of the PLDs to enhance equity in our society.

He urged the media to champion the advocacy to ensure that the existing laws are implemented to the advantage of PLDs.

Mr. Akwasi Kyei, Ashanti Regional Communication Director and Member of the Association, entreated parents with children with disabilities to assist their wards in order not to become a burden to the family and society as a whole.

He was of the view that not all the People Living with Disabilities can go to school, hence, the need for those who cannot have formal education to venture into entrepreneurship to secure better living condition for themselves.

Mr. Kyei disclosed that the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) had good intentions for the Association and the vulnerable or the less privileged in society, and for that matter, need to remain united.

The Association took the occasion to honour the Ambassador with a citation in recognition of his outstanding contributions and selfless support to the development of Persons Living with Disability, and to also motivate him to keep making a positive impact on society and the Association in making it more formidable.
