KMA Presiding Member honoured in Kenya

Frimpong receives a citation from Abdulgafoor M. Bachani, while David Cliff looks on admiringly

New York-based Bloomberg Philantropist, an organisation which focuses its resources on five areas of environment, public health, the arts, government innovation and education,  has honoured Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly’s Presiding Member, Patrick Kwame Frimpong, for his contributions to the growth of local governance.

Mr. Patrick Kwame Frimpong was recognised for being articulate on road safety, fire and other social issues for the benefit of the vulnerable in society.

The KMA Presiding Member rose through the Local Government system as former unit committee member of Krofofrom Electoral Area, Assembly member for Krofofrom East Electoral Area from 2006 to date, Presiding Member Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly and 1st Vice President of the National Association of Local Authority Ghana (NALAG).

The honours was jointly conferred on Frimpong by David Cliff, Chief Executive Officer of Global Road Safety Partnership and Abdulgafoor M. Bachani, PhD MHS, a

Director of Johns Hopkins international injury Research Unit in Kanye-Mombasa in Kenya.

The KMA Presiding Member who doubles as the first Vice President of the National Association of Local Authority, Ghana, participated in the five-day Global Road Safety Executive Leadership Course (RSELC).

This year’s edition of the course is the 19th and the first to be organised in Africa.

The workshop, facilitated by renowned resource personnel, including Ghana’s Abraham Amaliba of the National Road Safety Authority, took participants through National Level Road Safety performance: Applying the Safe system approach to road safety strategy and Monitoring, challenges of translating plans into sustained action and implementation of Road safety strategy.

Other areas of study at the workshop included identifying and monitoring results, challenges and solutions for finance and Resource Strategy as well as Inter government and non government collaboration.

The participants, 50 in number, were drawn from Ghana, Kenya, Uganda, Benin, Cameroon, Tanzania, Argentina, Ethiopia and Dubai.
