The Member of Parliament (MP) for Jomoro Constituency in the Western Region, Dorcas Afo Toffey, has presented over 2,000 boxes of assorted medicines to the Municipal Health Directorate with intent at aiding health delivery in the Jomoro Municipal.
The medicines, estimated to cost thousands of cedis, were donated to the Directorate for onward distribution to the 33 facilities in the constituency.
MP Dorcas Toffey personally donated the items to the Directorate after she visited some heath facilities and interacted with the staff and patients.
Donating the items, MP Toffey gave the assurance that the donation was not going to be a nine-day wonder, and that a lot more, most particularly medical equipment, were on its way to Jomoro for all the health facilities to benefit, which was received spontaneous applause from the medical staff and the gathering.
According to MP Toffey, it was her desire, as the peoples’ Legislator, to help solve most of the healthcare challenges in the Municipality, because that was her top concern and priority.
She said considering the spate of challenges the health facilities were facing in the District she was motivated to get the supplies after the Health Directorate had confided in her that there were not enough supplies of medicines.
This was at the time she had held a free health screening exercise in her constituency.
“I had to personally purchase and go to private health centers and beg them for it. But these are basic things.”
Receiving the supplies, the Jomoro Health Director, Gabriel Yenglierch, thanked the legislator on behalf of the Directorate for the kind gesture, and said there was no doubt the supplies would go a long way to save lives.
He, however, conceded that basic equipment were lacking in the various health facilities in the Municipality. The situation, he said, had become worse, to the extent that some health personnel had to hire materials from other colleagues in other municipalities in order to function.
