Tension at Akroso, Manso over leasing of land for 1D1F
Tension is mounting in the Asene Manso Akroso district of Eastern Region,following the misunderstanding between the chief of Akyem Akroso, Nana Kwabena Ofori II and Akyem Manso Obrempong, SintimPoku III
The already unfriendly relationship between the two chiefs was re-ignited when the chiefs and people of AkyemAkroso on Tuesday poured onto the streets to register their displeasure over a supposed sale of 200 hectares of land to an investor by the Akyem Manso chief, Obrempong SintimPoku III.
Addressing the media shortly after the demonstration on Tuesday, the chief of Akyem Akroso, Nana Kwabena Ofori II, warned his counterpart from Akyem Manso, Obrempong Sintim Poku III not to dare venture into their lands.
According to the furious Akroso chief, the chief of Akyem Manso is using dubious ways to take their stool lands for his personal gains and would never entertain it.
The Akyem Akroso chief mentioned that his colleague, Obrempong Sintim Poku III, recently came to their land and sold 200 hectares to an investor, which they would not allow the investor to develop.
He explained that, if the government fails to intervene, the two towns would be reduced to a battle ground, since he and his people would not allow anyone to take over their lands given to them by their forefathers.
Some of the elders in Akyem Akroso palace also added that they are ready to join their chief in the war against the Akyem Manso chief, if the government doesn’t intervene. As a result, they are appealing to the government to come in as quickly as possible.
Responding to the threat of his colleague chief through a telephone interview, the chief of Akyem Manso, who doubles as the Benkumhene of Akyem Kotoku traditional area, Obrempong Sintim Poku III affirmed his readiness to face Akroso chief and his people.
Confirming the release of the said hectares of land to the investor, Obrempong Sintim Poku III stated that he is the overload of Akyem Kotoku Benkum division of which Akyem Akroso is part of the areas he oversees.
He continued that, the land in question was released to the investor through many consultations with leadership of the Benkum division for the construction of “One district One factory (1D1F).
The Benkumhene of Akyem Kotoku traditional area indicated that the project when executed, would lead to the creation of jobs for the unemployed teeming youth in the area which directly and indirectly improve the socio-economic situation of the area.
“No traditional leader sells land in this 21 century. Lands are leased to investors for some number of years and that is what I did. I did not give out the land to the investor because of personal gains”, he further explained.
He disclosed that he and his people are also ready for Akroso chief and subjects and further warned the youth of Akroso to reason beyond personal gains and consider the future since the project is in their own interest.Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Pinterest
