Harry Kane’s penalty miss will haunt him for the rest of his life             -Alan Shearer

Alan Shearer has urged that Harry Kane‘s crucial penalty miss in the World Cup quarter-finals will forever haunt the striker.

England crashed out of the World Cup quarter-finals after suffering a cruel 2-1 defeat by France, missing out on a spot in the semi-finals against tournament giant-killers Morocco.

Aurelien Tchouameni netted from distance in the first half before Kane’s equaliser from the spot shortly after the break, but the forward failed to level the scoreboard again shortly after Olivier Giroud’s 78th minute go-ahead goal, blazing his second spot-kick over the crossbar six minutes from the end of normal time.

Reflecting on Kane’s tournament-defining miss, Shearer admitted the penalty will haunt the striker for the rest of his life.

‘I know his position and I know his mindset and I know he will put his head on the pillow on this night and the next and a few more besides and he will blink and stare at the ceiling. He will re-live his penalty over and over. And I promise you, it will stay with him forever.’
