A National Hausa Festival (Hausafest) has been held in Kumasi to mark International Hausa Day.
The theme was “US SDG Agenda 16 – Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions and its application in confronting the challenges in Ghana.”
Madam Janet Edna Nyame, Executive Director of the National Commission for Culture, who was the Guest Speaker, said Ghana ranked as the first peaceful country in sub-Sahara Africa and second in Africa, based on traditions, norms, cultures, and peaceful co-existence.
She entreated Ghanaians to continue to try to live harmoniously as one people with one destiny.
According to the Executive Director, the zongos were like any other place in the country, hence, the need to see ourselves as one people by leaning on one another to enable us interact freely.
Madam Janet Edna Nyame pleaded with stakeholders in the zongo communities to help put a stop to the notion that its youth were always used to foment violence, especially during elections.
According to her, the youth were the future of the zongos and should not involved themselves in acts of violence.
Alhaji Nuurudeen Abubakarh, Acting Chairman and Tamale Zongo Chief, also entreated the Zongo communities to live harmoniously as one people.
He disclosed that Islam stood for unity and tranquility towards development, and called for brotherliness, love, and respect and prosperity among Muslims.
He urged the Zongo communities to be tolerant of each other’s views and learn to forgive one another, avoid unwarranted conflicts, and adopt negotiations and decency in resolving their differences.
