In my first write up on the above subject matter published at page 10 of the Graphic of Monday, April 4, 2022, oh yes, almost four years ago, l drew attention to the looming danger faced by vulcanizers and by extension all and sundry with the unbridled citing of vulcanizing services dotted all over without any safety precaution(s).

Four years down the lane, none of those who matter in the equation have taken the issue up – Oh yes, they are waiting for a calamity to befall, then chauffeur their way to the accident/incident scene in their V8s, pocket their per diem, visit bereaved families amid promise to shoulder the cost of coffins etc and above all, annoyingly issue communiques which amounts to nothing.

Ghana sweet paa – see pictures below. Lawlessness galore. Everyone does what s/he likes with such impunity as if there are no laws and, again, persons charged same to ensure enforcement and compliance.

Yah, we wait for the illegality to establish itself and under the accolade of human face, aka, how will s/he eke out a living should we stop the practice, s/he is a Party person, Party Hia Sika, mention them, and we turn a blind eye to the very obvious.

Now to the remit of the piece which is pictured below. Yah, it’s right here in the capital, Accra, and on such a busy stretch, N1 Highway.

A vulcanizing services has been situated in the median between the main N1/George Walker Bush stretch and the slip road leading to Nogahil Hotel. This is almost immediately under the footbridge sandwiched between Metropolitan Insurance and Sunu Insurance.

By implication, any vehicle accessing that services is compelled to park on the busy stretch to access the services.

From the picture, a green M/Benz Splinter bus is parked to access the services, invariably obstructing the free flow of traffic.

Axiomatically, not only are the lives of the 23 persons on board the M/Benz at risk, for there is the possibility of a speeding vehicle running into it and, again, the life of the vulcanizer and his assistant (aplanke) as well.

Nor is it all, for innocent by standers awaiting to access transport and pedestrians are all at risk.

And this is conspicuously taking place in the full glare of the MMDA in the jurisdiction (l will not be surprised if the vulcanizer in question is ticketed every morning), Ghana Highways Authority (GHA), Department of Urban Roads (DUR), MTTD, NRSA, National Security who claim to have presence at every nook and cranny of the country, among others.

Such a vulcanizer might be quite obvious of the risks his actions and inactions pose to the generality of the public. It is for this reason that the aforementioned bodies have been established with trained brains to monitor, evaluate, enforce, educate, sensitize and, indeed, think for these lay persons, but what do we all witness here?

Per this piece, all AFFECTED AND/OR INFESTED ARE PUT ON ACTIVE NOTICE and shall be monitoring same minutely from my hamlet in far away Asante Effiduasi.

The system is so porous and simply lawless. FRACTURED PEACE indeed.
