DCE savesstudents from congestion at Dwenti SHS
The SekyereKumawu District Security Council (DISEC), headed by the District Chief Executive, Samuel Addai Agyekum, has ordered the closure of Dwenti Senior High School, a private remedial school at Nkwanta, near Kumawu, in the SekyereKumawu District, in the Ashanti Region.
Messrs Paul Afriyie and OkyereKrapa, headmaster and proprietor respectively of the school, who were arrested last Saturday for blatantly flouting COVID-19 safety protocol, have since been released.
Mr. Samuel Addai Agyekum ordered the closure of the school and arrest of the school authorities.
During a monitoring exercise by the COVID-19 Response Team with the District Security Council on Saturday, July 11, 2020 it was found out that the dormitories and classrooms were congested and not safe for the students to live in,in the face of the coronavirus pandemic.
Mr. AddaiAgyekum said the school had disregarded the directive by the President to ensure the safety of students.
As a result, all the 127 students were screened by the Health team, led by the District Director of Health Services, Dr. Lawrence Adinku. All the students, however, tested negative to the virus.
Since the students were preparing for their final examination, the DCE has made alternative arrangements to house some of the students at the Kumawu Institute of Skills Training to ease the congestion at the school’s dormitories, in order to avoid a calamity.
Mr. Agyekum said the decision was to ensure that the students were safe to write their final exams successfully, without contracting the deadly coronavirus.
