COVID-19 Fight: Your efforts are appreciated -Akufo-Addo commends chiefs
The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has commended chiefs in the country for playing critical role in the fight of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
He stated the measures put in place by chiefs and their queen mothers have helped the country to reduce the spread of the deadly virus making Ghana a better place to live.
He said chiefs were greatly involved in the three (3) fundamental measures pegged to fight the disease namely sensitisation, provision of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and enforcement of the law.
On sensitization, H.E Nana Addo explained that chiefs were out loud doing all they can to let people understand the nitty-gritty of the virus and what they were to do the curb the spread.
“On radio, television, newspapers and gatherings I heard them educating the masses on the virus ” President Nana Addo said.
The President who doubles as the Commander In Chief of Ghana Armed Forces hinted that chiefs kept on supplying PPEs to residents within their jurisdictions and even at times outside to help secure themselves well.
He said they donated to the COVID – 19 Private Sector Fund which was established to aid the fight. Aside this, various health facilities in the country also received support (PPEs) from the chiefs.
Speaking on law enforcement, the President disclosed that most chiefs instituted their own task force and ensure that residents adhered to the safety protocols described by World Health Organisation (WHO) and Ministry of Health (MoH) in combating the virus.
“You ensured that my directives on COVID – 19 during my updates were complied by your followers and I’m grateful to you all” he told them.
President Nana Addo who is the Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the December 7 General Elections said, with these, chiefs in the country deserve applause. He urged them to keep on helping the government to eradicate the virus completely.
He commended the chiefs when he paid a courtesy call to the Ahafo Regional House of Chiefs at Goaso the capital of the region.
