Cape Coast North MP marks birthday with donations

The Member of Parliament for the Cape Coast North, Dr Kwamena Minta Nyarku on Wednesday celebrated his birthday amidst distribution of dual desks to some basic schools in his constituency. In all, ten Basic Schools in the constituency benefited from the birthday donations to augment the pupil to desk ratio and significantly improve teaching and learning.

The schools were; Rev. Alec Jones Basic School, Nkanfoa, St. Paul’s Catholic Basic School, Nkanfoa, Okyeso Catholic Basic School, Duakor, Ankaful Basic School and Kubease Basic School, Asenadze.

Others were St. Andrews Basic School, Rev. Markin’s Basic School, Mpeasem Basic School, St. Peter’s Anglican Basic School and the St. Cyprian Anglican Basic School.

Speaking to the media, Dr Nyarku explained that he was once appalled by data from the GES which indicated that some basic schools in his constituency lacked about two thousand seats.

“In view of this, I decided that within my first term, I will use the occasion of my birthday, which falls on 7th December to donate desks to the schools”, he explained.

He added that, “So far, I have been able to produce about 485 dual desks and 70 mono desks, which together is about 1,040 seats which has reduced the desk deficit in our schools”.

Sources of funding

Dr Nyarku Minta disclosed that funding for the desks came from donations and not from his share of the MPs’ common fund.

“I raised the funds for this whole exercise by myself, with enormous support from friends. However, what would be done in April next year would be funded by part of the Common Funds”, he added.

Support for those into apprenticeship.

He further revealed that he would donate about 16 hairdryers to the Ghana National Hairdressers Association on 19th of December, 2022 to support the Association.

This, he said, was meant to empower the association so that it would be able to train more youth who have the desire to enter into the trade as apprentices.

“I would be making payment of GH¢25,000 to support the 1st Batch of the 100 BECE students who excelled in last year’s exams at Pedu School”.
