Banda celebrates Farmers Day at Fawoman

Some awards for hard working farmers

The Akyempemhene of the Banda Traditional Area in the Bono Region, Nana Yaw Mensah, has asked the people to continue to live in harmony, work harder as farmers, and uphold good practices that would ensure food security and prosperity for all.

He gave the advice at the 37th Farmers’ Day celebration at Fawoman in the Banda District.

The ceremony was graced by the Chiefs and people of Banda, heads of the security services, heads of departments and directors, the former District Chief Executive (DCE), Mary Konneh, sponsors of the Farmer’s Day celebration, and the general public.

Nana Mensah observed that agriculture had helped in the development of many countries, and urged the youth to venture into agriculture.

The District Chief Executive for Banda, Emmanuel Akone, commended the farmers for taking advantage of the Planting for Food and Jobs, Rearing for Food and Jobs, and Safety Net projects among others.

He further advised the farmers to fully commit themselves to the directions of the agric officers, and embrace the modern farming practices introduced by the government to boost yield.

The DCE, again, pleaded with the chiefs to institute laws with his support and that of the district assemblies in their respective jurisdictions, to guard against bushfires, which, he said, had been a retrogressive factor to the development of agriculture in the district.

He said everybody should see bushfires as an enemy of the progress of the district and its people, and fight it.
