Armed robbers attack Momo operator, make away with GH¢1.4m
Four suspected armed robbers last Tuesday attacked a mobile money (momo) operator at Buokrom Estate Junction in Kumasi and made away with about GH¢1.4 million, leaving one dead and another in serious condition at around 3pm.
The ‘momo’ agent also deals in selling electricity and receiving payments of water bills.
According to Mr. Fred Adu, an eyewitness who spoke to the media, the four armed robbers came with a motorbike and a vehicle. They pretended as if they were customers who had come to transact business at the shop.
He stated that three of them entered the shop and attacked the workers, seized their mobile phones and took their monies, whilst a gun wielding robber hanged around on a motorbike monitoring the scene.
According to him, the robbers did not only attack the ‘momo’ agent but also took the customers hostage on entering the shop.
He stated that, one of the workers, however, managed to call for help, but those around the area were terrified and afraid of the robbers, enabling them to make away with the money in broad daylight, before the anti robbery police squad arrived at the scene, upon getting the information.
Nana Kwaku Agyei, Buokrom Buafuohene, who was also at the scene, stated that the mobile phone of one of the armed robbers fell on the ground. It was picked up by a woman who handed it over to one of the guys around. An appeal is being made to the one who collected the mobile phone to make it available to help the police in their investigations.
