ZOOMLION TO LAUNCH CLEAN GHANA CAMPAIGN IN ASHANTI

THE ZOOMLION Ghana Limited, in collaboration with the Local Government ministry, will launch an intensive clean-up exercise in the Ashanti Region on Saturday, October 6, 2012, to ensure proper sanitation in the last quarter of the year.  

The Ashanti Regional manager of the company, Mr. Stephen Gyekye Darko, who announced this at a media interaction, said the nationwide program is at the instance of President John Mahama, who wishes that Ghanaians live in hygienic conditions.

It also aims at extending the life expectancy of the Ghanaian, as well as boost productivity.

The clean-up exercise, which will be launched at the  Jubilee Park, Kumasi, include de-silting of gutters, cleaning of garbage, sweeping and public education on public health.

Mr. Gyekye Darko indicated that his outfit has taken delivery of all logistics for the three months cleaning exercise and that Zoomlion is ready to execute the assignment.

“About 5,000 dustbins will be distributed throughout the Ashanti Region, while some would be sold to the public”, he added.

He stated that over 2,000 personnel would be recruited to form a sanitation taskforce to augment the current work force of the waste management unit of the company.

Mr. Gyekye said the distribution of logistics to various Assemblies in the Region would be done right after the launch and a supervision team will also be set up to monitor the execution of the exercise.

He charged all Zoomlion workers in the Region to prepare for the task ahead and assured them of providing the necessary gadgets for their safety.

The Regional Zoomlion boss pointed out that the exercise would come on every Saturday of the week from October till the end of the year.

He said sanitation groups would be established in our schools to sensitize the students on the need to keep the environment clean. He urged the general public to fully participate in the upcoming event and avoid apathy towards the exercise.
