Zoomlion Domestic Services Limited Gives To Mampong-Akuapem Presby SHS

As part of its corporate social responsibility, Zoomlion Domestic Services Limited, a subsidiary of Zoomlion Ghana Limited, has presented 100 refuse bins to the Mampong-Akuapem Presbyterian Senior High School (SHS).

Presenting the items to the management of the school in the presence of the students at a short but colourful ceremony last Monday, the Marketing Officer of the sector, Madam Jennifer Twum-Barimah, said the donation was in response to a letter from the management of the school about a fortnight ago, asking Zoomlion to assist the school with refuse bins.

To her, the battle on waste management in the country could only be tackled effectively, when the culture of waste management was inculcated into the youth, hence the company was happy to present the items.

She was hoped that the GH¢2,000 worth of bins would be well managed to lead to a new paradigm shift from littering to cleanliness, and charged the management of the school to put them to good use.

The Zoomlion Domestic Services Limited Marketing Officer seized the opportunity to admonish Ghanaians to desist from dumping waste materials into gutters, and indiscriminate littering, to keep the environment clean.

Receiving the items on behalf of the school, the Assistant Headmaster, Mr. Alex Barif Obeng, expressed profound gratitude to the management of the leading waste management in the country for its timely response and intervention.

He was surprised at the promptness of the company’s response since it was informed about the challenge of waste management in the school.

On behalf of the school, Mr. Obeng promised that the bins would be put to good use to drum home the purpose of the presentation.

In a related development, the school, like other lesser known schools in the country, is losing the battle of lack of infrastructure, as students have classes in makeshift classrooms.

This development, according to the students, has had serious effects on the quality of teaching and learning, and appealed to the government go to their aid urgently.

Speaking to the Eastern File, the class prefect of Science 1, Master Eugene Agyapong, said the students find it difficult to concentrate during classes, because of the state of their classroom.

The classroom, which is just space fenced with some hard material known locally as “tapolee” and uncemented, is hot and stuffy.

Even though the students are willing to cope with the room, there are no desks for them, as students sit on dwarf-like pews that accommodate six to seven of them, and carry their books on their thighs.

As if that was not enough, the students have no place to sleep, and hang about like bats and birds.

The girls’ dormitory, which defies description, leaks like a basket whenever it rains, with the students standing and carrying their things to prevent them from getting wet.

On such occasions, the girls are forced to share space with others, sleeping in threes and fours.
