Youth Urged To Study Country’s Constitution

The Acting District Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) in the Nkwanta South District, Mr. Daniel Agbesi Latsu, has stressed the need for Ghanaians, especially students, to develop interest in the study of the 1992 Constitution, to enable them play their roles more effectively.
Mr. Latsu pointed out that adequate knowledge of the Constitution by the people would help ensure that the citizens know more about their rights, as well as responsibilities.
This he noted would enable them to fully participate in the governance process of the nation, and contribute meaningfully towards its development.
The Acting Director of the NCCE in the Nkwanta South District who said this when he inaugurated the Northern Volta Star Academy Junior High School (JHS) Civic Education Club (CEC) at Nkwanta, stressed that the importance of understanding the Constitution by all would help the people to defend and protect it at all times.
Mr. Latsu underscored the importance of the formation of Civic Education Clubs in educational institutions, because the activities of the clubs would serve as a motivational factor for students and pupils to develop interest in the constitution from an early stage in life, which would also enable them become very patriotic citizens.
He assured the public of the NCCE’s commitment to ensuring that Ghanaians develop a high interest in the Constitution and other areas of high interest relevant to deepening and sustaining the democratic practices of the nation, through regular public education, and called all stakeholders to take inspiration from such clubs in schools, and help in nurturing the youth to become responsible adults in future.
The Headmaster of the Northern Volta Star Academy, Mr. Gilbert Nana Adjei, commended the management and staff of the NCCE for their commitment to duty, which had resulted in the inauguration of the Civic Club in the school, and urged pupils and students to take advantage of the opportunities available to them to study hard.
An Assistant Civic Education Officer of the NCCE in the District, Mr. Abass Yussif, also advised the pupils and students to take the activities of the club seriously, to enable them gain a better understanding of the 1992 Constitution.
He added that broad knowledge of the Constitution would help them relate effectively with one another in the democratic environment being enjoyed by the people in the country.
The 25-member club has Master Simon Gyato as Chairman, Wisdom Boateng as Secretary, Okumptey Asiedu as Treasurer, and Georgina Dagadu as Organiser.
The Civic Education Club is a voluntary study group of the Constitution, which provides avenue to shape the views of the youth on the Constitution, and would help develop in its members, the principles and objectives of the constitution as the fundamental law of the country.
