Who rules the World?

…As Barca’s trio contest FIFA Ballon d’Or today

The trio, Messi, Xavi and Iniesta, who rules the World in this evening ceremony

A Barcelona player is sure to win when the world’s best soccer player of 2010 is crowned.

All three candidates for the FIFA Ballon d’Or award—Xavi Hernandez, Andres Iniesta and Lionel Messi—to be announced Monday play for the Spanish team. Each was taught at Barcelona’s youth academy.

The gala ceremony is shaping up as another victory lap for World Cup winner Spain.
Xavi and Iniesta, who scored the winning goal in the final, are favored over Messi, whose Argentina side lost in the quarterfinals.

National team boss Vicente del Bosque is nominated for the inaugural best men’s coach award.

FIFA also will announce the best women’s player and coach.
Voting was by national team coaches and captains and selected international journalists.

While Messi is widely acknowledged as the world’s finest and best player and had a phenomenal 2010 in which he scored goals aplenty, Xavi was the conductor of the orchestra from central midfield and inspired Barcelona to the Spanish Primera Division title last season and was also a key component in Spain’s World Cup-winning team.

Andres Iniesta, though, scored the winner against the Netherlands in the final and has been back to his best in the first half of the 2010-11 campaign.
