Weija Assembly Embarks On Removal Of Unauthorized Billboards

Erection of billboards and signposts at wrong places, especially by the roadside, has been identified by the National Road Safety Commission (NRSC) to be one of the causes of accidents on our roads.

 

The Commission therefore ordered Municipal, Metropolitan and District Assemblies ((MMDAs) to ensure that bill boards mounted at wrong places were removed to reduce accidents.

 

The Ga South Municipal Assembly (GSMA) in compliance with the order is removing all unauthorized billboards and signposts put at wrong places that could cause accidents.

 

According to the Works Foreman of the Ga South Municipal Assembly, Mr. Azameti Albert Dodzi, some advertising companies illegally mounted billboards at junctions that made it difficult for drivers to see other approaching vehicles.

 

He said most of the advertising signposts were creating nuisance and destroying the beauty of the Malam – Kasoa highway, hence, the removal exercise.

 

The Works foreman therefore urged all adverting companies and individuals interested in erecting billboards in the municipality to seek the assembly’s permission before doing so.

 

He added that the assembly is currently in a process of converting multiple adverts into a single multipurpose billboard which would be located at strategic points in the municipality.
