“VOLTA YOUTH FOR JOHN MAHAMA” …TO MATCH NPP BOOT FOR BOOT

From Samuel Agbewode, Ho

A youth group calling itself ‘Volta Youth for John Mahama’ says it would put in place programmes and activities that would help them to match the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) boot for boot, to ensure that the Flag bearer of the ruling party wins the 2012 general election.

The leaders of the new NDC youth Group in the Volta Region, the ‘World Bank’ of the NDC, is hopeful that the Group would be a major political youth Group that would market President Mahama, as well as project the numerous development projects in the region to enable the people to appreciate development activities in the region better.

Addressing a news conference to outdoor the Group in Ho recently, the Spokesperson for the “Volta Youth for John Mahama”, Mr. Stanley Glate said the Group members were provoked by the governance issues raised by the Presidential Candidate of the NPP, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, during his encounter with the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) debate.

Mr. Gate alleged that Nana Akufo Addo failed to state critical measures that he would take to address corruption in the country. Touching on the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), Gate claimed Nana Akufo Addo threw dust into the eyes of Ghanaians because the scheme is now more accessible to Ghanaians than during ex-President Kufuor’s regime.

According to him, only seven million Ghanaians had access to the scheme in 2008, but the figure has now shot up to 15 million subscribers.

Mr. Glate said on matters of education, the free education policy that Nana Addo had been trumpeting was not feasible.

According to him Nana Addo was part of the Kufuor’s government that failed to give attention to education especially in the area of infrastructure development.

Mr. Glate also accused NPP of mismanaging the agricultural sector, but has now been revived by the NDC government.
