Volta NDC wants Kennedy Agyapong to resign
By: Samuel Agbewode, Ho
The Volta Region branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has called on the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Assin North Constituency, Mr. Kennedy Agyapong, to honourably resign for his unguarded statement made on an Accra-based radio station.
The NDC explained that since Mr. Agyapong had declared war against Ewes and the Gas in the country, it was very clear that the MP had broken his oath as a Member of Parliament, hence, the best thing to do under the prevailing circumstances was to resign.
Addressing a press conference in Ho, the Volta Regional Secretary of the NDC, Mr. Simon Amegashie-Viglo, noted that the declaration of war on all Ewes and Gas by Mr. Agyapong was arguably his redefinition, and implied the meaning of the ‘all die be die’ philosophy of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo.
Mr. Amegashie-Viglo said the declaration made by the MP, who was under oath to uphold, preserve, protect and defend the constitution of the country, was a serious and unacceptable deed.
According to him, chapter five of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana, of which Mr. Agyapong is on oath to uphold, preserve, protect and defend, had enshrined provisions on fundamental human rights and freedoms.
He stressed that Article 12 sub-section two (2) states that “every person in Ghana, whatever his race, place of origin, political opinion, colour, religion, creed or gender, shall be entitled to the fundamental human rights of the individual,” and continued further that Article 13, sub-section one (1), also states that “no person shall be deprived of his life intentionally, except in the exercise of the execution of a sentence of a court in respect of a criminal offence.”
“It is against this background that the NDC in the Volta Region, finds Hon. Agyapong’s declaration of genocide on Ewes and Gas as unfortunate, unacceptable and irresponsible, and we want to remind Hon. Agyapong, and all those who think like him, that there are decent and highly respected Ewes in the NPP, who have peacefully co-existed with their Ewe kinsmen and women in the pursuit of their political aspirations,” he said.
He pointed out that in the execution of the ‘evil mandate of exterminating of Ewes and Gas’, the executioners would not ask whether the Ewe or Ga was a member of the NPP or the NDC, and that the executioners would kill anybody, just like a modern day Adolph Hitler, when they start their business of eliminating Ewes and Gas.
According to the Volta NDC Secretary, the things that unite us as Ghanaians were far more important than those that divide us, and therefore, condemned the declaration, and urged all Ghanaians to condemn the genocide call against Ewes and Gas.
