Vodafone Ghana Foundation launches World of Difference
By Dora Akyaa Asare

The ‘World of Difference’ initiative is aimed at giving professionals and individuals the unique opportunity to offer their experience and skills to positively transform communities through selected charities or projects of their choice.
According to members of the foundation, the project would empower 50 selected applicants to implement a problem solving initiative that they have conceptualized for their selected charity or project.
The selected applicants will spend two months working with organisations that work with underprivileged groups in several communities across the country. During the two month period, they will receive monthly stipends from the Vodafone Ghana Foundation.
Launching the project, Patrick Boateng, Director of External Affairs noted that “we are glad to be providing the opportunity for several people to make a difference in society by solving social problems that we are passionate about. Through the World of Difference Project, thousands of lives across the country have improved for the better.
“I urge all persons who have the passion to do something about a problem they have noticed to apply and stand the chance to effect positive change in their community. At Vodafone, our brand promise is about empowerment, and the World of Difference project certainly does that”.
Through the World of Difference project, many applicants have contributed to improving the lives of Ghanaians in areas such as health, education and environmental cleanliness, entrepreneurial grooming and youth empowerment.
In the West Aboayi community in Sunyani in the Brong-Ahafo region, Joanna Oduro Sarpong, a Social worker, teamed up with Global Media foundation to provide skills training for sustaining livelihoods.
Project submissions are now being accepted until 20 August, 2012, after which applicants will be shortlisted, interviewed and trained to live the Vodafone way during their projects.
Application forms are available at Vodafone retail shops or online on the Vodafone Ghana website www.vodafone.com.gh; interested participants are encouraged to approach a registered charity, gain their support and jointly agree on a project plan before applying. Volunteers from varied professional backgrounds are encouraged to apply
