By Betty Mingle

Zoomlion Ghana Limited, the leading waste management company in the country, has called on Ghanaians, especially residents of Accra, to value their lives and live responsibly, given the alarming spate of cholera outbreaks in the capital.

“We are the cause of our own troubles, and it is high time Ghanaians valued their lives and lived more responsibly,” Mr. Abel Djangmah, Greater Accra Regional Vector Control Officer of Zoomlion has said.

He was speaking to this paper in an interview on the sides of a cleanup and fumigation of refuse dumpsites in a bid to control the outbreak of cholera that has hit the Greater Accra Region.

“The cholera outbreak was of great concern to us, so we quickly deployed over 200 trained spraying staff, who fumigated all refuse dumping sites, drains and toilet facilities across all the sub-metros in the Greater Accra Region,” he said.

“This is part of our regular exercise, but we intensified this due to the outbreak,” Djangmah said, adding, “We received technical guidance and input from sanitation officers in all the sub metros.”

“We are also introducing Bola Solution, a scientific biological remediation product used to digest and assimilate the odor and stench emanating from dumpsites and public places of convenience, thus reducing the volume organic waste.

“It is being piloted in selected sub metros, and will be simulated nationwide soon,” he said.

James Akogo, Assembly Member for the Abofu electoral area, said, “Zoomlion’s intervention of fumigating the whole area has really improved the lives of our people. We also use keep fit activities to propagate the importance of good sanitary conditions to the youth.”

Akogo, called on citizens of Accra to live in good sanitary conditions to save lives.
