Upper East Retains Rev. Ayeebo At Council Of State

RIGHT REV. Jacob Kofi Ayeebo has been retained as the Member of the Council of State representing the Upper East Region.

He obtained 20 votes as against his two contestants, Mr. Clement Gwalania Abavana, an Electrical Engineer, who secured 5 votes and Naba Bewong Joseph Gelbire, a Mining Engineer and also President of the Upper East Regional House of Chiefs, who managed a single vote. There was no spoilt ballot paper.

The election was peacefully conducted by the regional office of the Electoral Commission. In his acceptance speech, Rev Ayeebo said his victory was the region’s and thanked the voters for the confidence reposed in him and called for support from his contestants and the general public for him to continue from where he left.

Rev. Ayeebo said as a team, they the Members of the Council of State have contributed significantly in counseling the late President since 2009 till his demise and as well as President Hahama. According to him, he and his colleagues played critical roles in the creation of new districts and constituencies in their respective regions.

Each of the 13 districts in the region presented 2 representatives to form the voting population of 26.The two failed contestants pledged to support Rev. Ayeebo describing his victory as victory for the region.
