Technical team from France visits Ho Central Market …to assess congestion on market days
By: Samuel Agbewode
The Project Officer of the French Development Agency, financiers of the Ghana Urban Management Project (GUMP), Mr. Augustine Atiah, has explained that there were no technical difficulties associated with the reconstruction of the Ho Central Market, as all had been addressed.
Mr. Atiah said what was left for physical construction work to start was the opening of a tender, and the contractor for the project selected, which he said, was crucial to such projects, and hoped that within the next three months, a tender and contractor for the project would be selected for work to start.
The Project Officer of the GUMP stressed that money for the project had been made available, and as soon as the tender was opened and the contractor selected, the market would be reconstructed into a modern market, and called for cooperation and support from stakeholders when work starts.
The Ho Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Isaac Kodobisah, who led the team round the market, said he was satisfied with the visit of the funding agency, because the visit had offered them the opportunity to really appreciate the need for the reconstruction of the market, as they had witnessed the congestion at the market place.
Mr. Kodobisah, who was euphoric by the visit, said nothing would stop the implementation of the project, as an objection order had been obtained to protect the project.
He said after tender was open and a contractor selected, which would be within three to four months, work on the market project would start.
He also took the delegation around ongoing French government sponsored projects in the Ho Municipality.
