Suspended Wakaso To Miss Niger Clash

Ghana midfielder Mubarak Wakaso will miss Monday’s 2013 Africa Cup of Nations match against Niger as he is suspended.

The influential Black Stars player picked up his second yellow card of the competition on Thursday during their match against Mali.

Wakaso scored the opening goal of the match and celebrated by lifting his shirt to show a religious message.

The ‘Allah is Great’ message on his shirt attracted the yellow card, which adds to the first caution Wakaso got in the Black Stars opening match against DR Congo last Sunday.

This means he will automatically be suspended from playing their last Group B match against Niger in Port Elizabeth. His absence is a blow for Ghana as he has been instrumental in recent Black Stars matches.

Mubarak Wakaso scored his debut Nations Cup goal for the Black Stars in their 3-0 win over Mali on Thursday.

The in-form Espanyol player scored from the spot kick in the 37th minute after Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu was fouled in the penalty box.

The 22-year-old stepped up for the kick and expertly displayed goalkeeper Samassa Mamadou to set the stadium agog.

Wakaso was influential in the nervy 1-0 win over the Eagles but was replaced by Christian Atsu after he picked up an injury.
