Rlg Communications, an indigenous phone and computer manufacturing company, has donated 200 pieces of rlg phones, worth GH¢3,000, to the two biggest political parties in the country – the ruling National Democratic Party(NDC) and the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) – ahead of the 2012 general elections.
The phones are specially designed and branded for the NDC and NPP. The NDC phones have the photograph of the presidential candidate, Prof. John Evans Atta Mills, and that of the NPP has Nana Akuffo Addo as screen savers.
It also comes with the mottos of the NDC “Eye Zu Eye Za”, and NPP “Eeshi Rado Rado” as ringing tones of two parties.
The donation, which is on a pilot basis, is to support the political parties in their campaign before, during, and after the 2012 general elections.
It is aimed to help the two political parties to dialogue and deepen their communications, and also monitor and collate results after the voting.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, rlg Chief Operations Officer for West Africa, David Afugani, said the purpose of the donation was to promote the parties, as well as create jobs for the party and loyal members who would be given the phones at a subsidised price for sale.
The two parties thanked rlg for the gesture.
