Two persons were reported killed at separate locations in Navrongo on Friday evening, when a raging rainstorm hit the town and its adjoining communities.
Although the identities of the deceased were not known, some residents of Navrongo who spoke to The Chronicle said one of them who hailed from Doba near Navrongo was killed when a wall collapsed on him while riding a motorbike in the Navrongo township.
The second person was reported to have run into a container to take refuge during the rain, but unfortunately, a strong wind lifted the container and smashed it against a tree, killing him instantly.
Several houses, school buildings, including dormitories and hostels, kiosks and stores in the Kassena-Nankana East and West districts were destroyed, rendering dozens of people homeless.
Dormitories and hostels of both the University for Development Studies and Navrongo Senior High School (NAVASCO) were affected, making it difficult for the students to cope with the harsh weather conditions.
At the Navrongo Senior High School, four dormitories, two classroom blocks, seven staff bungalows, and the dining hall were severely affected.
At Nayagnia, near Navrongo, a large portion of the roof of the building being used by Navid Ventures, dealers in building materials, was completely ripped off.
The District Information Service Office building at Navrongo also had part of its roof ripped off. Electric poles were pulled down plunging the whole of the Navrongo township into darkness.
