Rafael Benitez is as short as 5/1 to make a sensational return to Liverpool as their next manager. Sky Bet made Benitez their second favourite at 5s to be Roy Hodgson’s successor at Anfield following media reports that he had been sacked by Inter Milan. Only Frank Rijkaard, at 3/1, is ahead of him in the market right now.
The reports first emerged on Tuesday night, but on the same evening club president Massimo Moratti said the Spaniard was still in charge.
Benitez, who only left the club in the summer, is available at 9/1 with William Hill, although that’s in from 25/1. The Spaniard is a general 16/1 in the next Manchester City boss market.
However, Sky Bet make it a 4/1 shot that his next job is in the Premier League – the Leeds-based firm make a return to his homeland to manage in the Primera Division the most likely next move at 4/6.
Under Benitez, Inter have struggled and the European champions currently sit only seventh in the Serie A table. They trails leaders and local rivals AC Milan by 13 points, although they do have two games in hand.
The 50-year-old, whose six-year reign at Anfield saw him bring the Champions League trophy to the club, has been back on Merseyside this week on holiday with the winter break currently in operation in Italy.
