Queen Mother Elected To Represent B/A @ Council Of State

Nana Saah Gyamfuah II, Queen of Anyimah in the Kintampo South District was on Wednesday elected as the Brong Ahafo Regional Representative to the Council of State.
The 43- year-old traditional ruler and businesswoman polled 32 votes in an election conducted by the Electoral Commission (EC) in Sunyani to defeat her main challenger, Mr. Joseph Henry Owusu-Acheampong the immediate past Regional Representative of the Council of State who polled 22 votes.
Other contestants were 21 year old unemployed, Evans Ofori Mensah, who had zero vote, with Mr. Raphael Cubagee, a 40 year old farmer also polling no votes.
Another contestant, Daniel Kwaku Dartey a 50-year old tutor at Chiraa Senior High in the Sunyani West District stepped down to support the candidature of Mr. J. H. Owusu-Acheampong.
Earlier, the Paramount Chief of Yeji Traditional Area, Pemampem Yaw Kagbrese V withdrew his candidature before the election. In her victory speech, Nana Gyamfuah thanked the delegates for the confidence reposed in her and gave the assurance that she would live to the expectations of the people and also justify the confidence reposed in her.
The caretaker Regional Minister, Mr. Kwadwo Nyamekye-Marfo, commended the delegates on the peaceful manner in which they went about the election. He also challenged the winner to give of her best by assisting to bring more development to the region. Present at the election was Mrs. Cecilia Johnson, council of state member.
