‘Offer private universities equal opportunities’

The Vice President of Jayee University College, Mr. Stephen Bemile has appealed to governmental and private institutions to afford students of private universities the same employment opportunities as those of public universities.
According to him, private institutions play an important role in the advancement of society through the supply of human resource, skills and training that Ghana needs as a developing country.
Thus, “it would be unfair to discriminate against graduates of private universities who are as equally competent and skilled as his or her counterparts from the public universities when it comes to employment opportunities”, he stated.
Mr. Bemile said this at the launch of the school’s 25th anniversary on the theme – “Twenty Five Years of Human Capital Development: The Way Forward”, in Accra on Thursday.
He stressed that it was important for graduates from private institutions to also be employed in all sectors because “All of us are important stakeholders who must do our very best in all situations to ensure that Ghana becomes a success and a shining example to the rest of the world.”
He noted that it was to make their students competent that their programmes were knowledge and entrepreneurship based, in order to produce graduates who can “create jobs and not people who will be looking for jobs.”
In view of this, he announced that the university has acquired a land at Cape Coast, which will serve as a multi-purpose campus and also promote the college’s ambition towards realizing a charter and becoming a fully-fledged university awarding degrees, diplomas and certificates.
He noted that Jayee and sister universities from other African Countries, America and Europe facilitate exchange programmes for students. This, according to the university, is because cooperation between universities would enrich all parties involved intellectually, culturally, commercially, as well as promote international peace, understanding and tolerance.
“Our alumni stretch beyond the borders of Ghana and include Chadians, Togolese, Nigerians, Burkinabe, Cameroonians, Gabonese Guineans, Beninois, Ivorians and Sierra Leoneans, among others.”
Mr. Bemile used the opportunity to call on journalists to be cautious in their reportage, especially during this election season. “It is a well-documented fact that the fire of genocide that raged and razed Rwanda was stoked by the media.”
As part of the anniversary celebration, the programme lined up includes: Anniversary Lecture, Launching of Anniversary publications, Documentary, Alumni Homecoming, 4th Congregation, fun games, Exhibition, Award ceremony and Dinner dance.
