NADMO receives first batch of relief items

By William N-lanjerborr Jalulah
The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) in the Upper East Region yesterday took delivery of the first batch of relief items to be distributed to victims of last Friday’s rainstorm that hit Navrongo and its adjoining communities.
The Upper East Regional Coordinator of NADMO, Mr. Patrick Akake, told The Chronicle the items arrived midnight on Wednesday, and that his office took delivery of them on Thursday at about 9:30 a.m. in Bolgatanga.
Although NADMO has taken delivery of the items, the Coordinator says his office would wait until the next batch of the items arrives before distributing them to the victims.
He explained that he had discussed the issue with the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Kassena-Nankana East, and they had agreed that a committee be put in place to look at the distribution modalities, while they wait for the second batch to arrive.
Mr. Akake further explained that if his office attempts to distribute the first batch of items while they wait for the second batch, there would be confusion among the victims and his staff, because the items received were not adequate to be distributed.
The items include 30 packets of roofing sheets, 20 packets of roofing nails, 30 bales of secondhand clothing, 500 pieces of poly mats, 2,000 plastic plates, 2,000 plastic cups, 10 cartons of mosquito coil, 300 blankets, 50 mini bags of maize, 50 mini bags of beans, 100 plastic buckets, and 100 plastic basins.
Mr. Akake said the second batch of relief items are expected in the next two days.
