Move to expand Rlg’s training facilities underway

The Rlg Institute of Technology, a subsidiary of Rlg Communications, has embarked on an aggressive programme to expand its training facilities across the country to increase access to Information Communication and Technology (ICT) education and training.
The multi-million cedi programme will also see the upgrading of courses to accommodate emerging issues, trends and demands.
The Head of the Rlg Institute of Technology, Mr. Isaac Appiah, who disclosed this at Koforidua in the Eastern Region, said the decision follows a recommendation by a Parliamentary Select Committee on Trade, Industry and Tourism which toured Rlg installations in Accra recently.
Mr. Appiah was addressing a graduation ceremony for 717 beneficiaries who had undergone training under the ICT Module of the National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP).
The six-month training exposed the beneficiary youth to basic computer skills and knowledge, software and hardware, computer and mobile phone repairs and entrepreneurship.
He said the proposed expansion is expected to double the institute’s existing training centers currently numbering 46 nationwide.
The Eastern Regional Minister, Ambassador Victor Smith in a speech read for him announced ongoing plans to increase the number of modules under the NYEP.
He said recent decision by the programme to engage 30,000 more youth on the ICT Module manifests government’s desire to improve the lot of the country’s youth.
The Adontenhene of the New Juaben Traditional Area, Nana Kodua Kesse commended the graduands for successful training and entreated them to put skills acquired to good use.
The Eastern Regional Co-ordinator of NYEP, Joshua Attah-Mensah commended government and the sector ministry for working hard to remove initial bottlenecks which hampered the programme’s success.
The Graduands were presented with certificates and set of equipment to facilitate their business set-up.
Present at the ceremony were four District Chief Executives and District Co-ordinators from nine District Assemblies in the Region
