The Eastern Regional Secretary for the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Anthony Gyampo, has fired back at critics of President John Evans Atta Mills, who he described as selfish individuals who were only sowing seeds of misunderstanding and confusion in the party.
The President, who was once described by the largest opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, as “President Do-little,” has been under severe attack by members of his own party in recent times.
The Eastern Regional Secretary has however, appealed to the grassroots members of the party to be wary of these detractors who claim to be fighting for them.
Speaking in an interview with The Chronicle at Koforidua recently, Gyampo said even though criticisms are welcome in the party, it behooves on true party members to offer constructive criticisms, and not destructive ones. He described those attacking the President as disgruntled people who failed to meet their ministerial aspirations.
The Regional Secretary, who is also a Board Member at the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), called on the embittered members to exercise restraint, since no government in the world had been able to satisfy the interests of all its faithful.
He explained that the only institution that could fight for the interest of the government was the party, hence, anybody who engages in any activity that would bring the image of the party into disrepute, is not a true member of the party.
