President John Dramani Mahama appears to have bowed to pressure from the chiefs in the Western Region by appointing Mr. Emmanuel Armah Buah as Minister for Energy and Petroleum.

Chiefs from the Western Region recently put pressure on the President to appoint Mr. Buah as Energy Minister to oversee petroleum and gas matters.

The reason for their demand was that since oil and gas had been found in their region, it was reasonable for the President to appoint one of their own people to head the sector.

They went ahead to suggest the name of Mr. Emmanuel Armah Buah, Member of Parliament (MP) for Ellembelle as their choice for the ministry.

Even though it is not known whether the President had already appointed Buah as the Energy Minister-designate before the chiefs issued the threat to him, the former Deputy Energy Minister’s name was among the new list of ministers released by the presidency yesterday.

The rest of the ministers are Dr. Benjamin Kunbuor, the Majority Leader who has been given the additional responsibility as Minister in charge of Government Business in Parliament, Mrs. Marietta Brew Appiah-Oppong, Minister for Justice and Attorney-General, Mrs. Dzifa Attivor, who has been elevated from her deputy position to become the substantive Minister for Transport, and Nii Armah Ashietey, Minister of Employment and Labour Relations.

The rest are Ms. Hanny Sherry Ayittey, who has moved from the Ministry of Environment, Science and Technology to that of Health, with Mr. Elvis Afriyie Ankrah being elevated from a Deputy Ministerial position to head the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

The following is the full list.
