Korle-Bu honours retirees

Many at times, when a person is due to retirement, frustrations, sadness, loneliness and a spirit of feeling unimportant to the society one has worked for all his or her life, are some of the thoughts that mostly bothers our cherished hardworking citizens.

But these thoughts and imaginations have been turned around, as the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH), under leadership of Prof. Nii Otu Nartey, has organised the second edition of a three-day retirees’ programme for 120 retiring staff of the hospital.

The retirees were given gifts, which include hampers, blackberry phones, 32 inches LCD TVs, and a parcel of land for the long serving staff.

Prof. Nartey, expressing his appreciation to the retirees on Friday, urged the out-going staff to use the opportunity to do things they were unable to do, because of work and running a family.

He encouraged them to do regular exercises and eat well, in order to keep a healthy body. “If you are on retirement and you do not exercise, life becomes difficult for you.”

Prof. Nartey thanked them for their immense contributions to bring the hospital this far.

The Director of Human Resource, Tahir A. Mamudu, who was the brain behind the gesture, told the press that idea was to honour staff going on retirement.

He said as part of the three days programme, advice on how to maintain a healthy lifestyle was given to them along with medical examinations.

The longest serving staff, Madam Elizabeth Agamah, was given a parcel of land for working with the hospital for 42 years, while Joyce Dickson and Grace Annan were each given 32-inch LCD TVs for also working for 42 years.
