The Government of Japan is to undertake its Japanese Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGHSP) scheme, a $103,481 water project for the Sunyani West District Assembly in the Brong-Ahafo Region.

With this grant, the assembly will construct eight spring water tanks, each with hand pumps in the beneficiary communities, including places like Obiri Yeboah, Beposo Away, Nkonsia, New Town and Gyasee No.1 and No.2.

At the signing ceremony in Accra yesterday, the Deputy Ambassador of Japan Embassy in Ghana, H.E. Hisanobu Mochizuki disclosed that over 22,600 inhabitants will benefit from the project.

He said several communities in the district assembly relies on ground water (such as spring) as their main source of water for household activities, saying these water sources were not being protected, hence the need to provide potable water to them.

The District Chief Executive of the assembly, Mr. Kwadwo Osei-Asibey thanked the Japanese Government for the gesture. He pledged that “we would work assiduously to ensure the smooth implementation of the project.”
