The Berekum East Municipal Assembly in the Bono Region has disbursed items worth about GH¢49,000 to 32 Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in the Municipality.
Presenting the items to the beneficiaries, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr. Kofi Adjei, explained that it was the government’s initiative to support the physically challenged in society by providing items that will better their living.
He stressed that the stated amount formed part of the 3% of the Assembly’s Common Fund meant for the physically challenged, and this was the second time in the year that they are being supported with such items.
The MCE asked the beneficiaries to make good use of the items received.
The items included four-decker fridges, sewing and knitting machines, three packets of roofing sheets and nails, two brand new laptops, three table top fridges, wheelchairs, start-up trading materials, and goats for rearing amongst other.
A blind beneficiary who teaches at Berekum Presby Senior High School (SHS), Mr Adu Gyamfi, received a brand new latop. According to him, the latop would help him programme all his lessons before teaching, and will make teaching easy for him.
He advised his fellow disabled persons to stop begging on the streets since they can do a lot only if they will believe in themselves. He also encouraged the other beneficiaries to make good use of the items.
