The left arm of a sixteen-year-old first year Junior High School (JHS) student, Josephine Amoabeng, has been cut off following a brawl which ensued between her and a young man on a cocoa farm at Komfour-Nkwanta, near Obuasi in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region.
Mr. Kwadwo Sakyi, father of the girl, narrated to The Chronicle that his daughter followed some friends to cook on a farm, where a fight ensued between she and the young man over bathroom slippers (charlewote), which reportedly belonged to the boy but was being worn by his daughter.
According to him, the brawl resulted in the boy sustaining some slight injuries, for which he vowed to retaliate.
After eating, while his daughter was washing the bowls, the young man took a machete and hacked of the daughter’s left arm and bolted, while the others who were nearby also left her in a pool of blood and run away, he narrated.
According to him, his daughter was subsequently rushed to the Obuasi Government Hospital, but upon arrival at the hospital, the doctors said nothing could be done to salvage the situation.
The boy has since been arrested and granted bail awaiting prosecution.
DSP Martin Asenso, Obuasi District Police Commander, who confirmed the incident, said an investigation is underway.
