The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Techiman in the Bono East Region, Mr. John Kofi Donyina, has lamented over the poor attitude of some matrons, cooks, teachers and other stakeholders under the School Feeding Programme in the municipality.
According to the MCE, President Akufo-Addo’s intention of expanding the School Feeding Programme to many schools was to increase school enrolment and improve the health of the students.
He lamented over politicising the program which does not help in the development of the educational sector of the country, stressing that such actions would not be tolerated
He said those who had contract under the programme but not discharging their duties as expected would never get an approval of a renewed contact when time is due.
He tasked all chiefs (nananom) in the municipality to constantly visit the schools and monitor their activities and report problems for immediate sanctions to be taken.
He disclosed this following reports made by a non-governmental organisation (NGO), Women’s Integration Development Organisation (WIDO), which monitors the activities of the School Feeding Programme to ensure local government accountability.
Meanwhile the Desk Officer of the School Feeding Programme, Madam Addai Carista, tasked all members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) who have had the opportunity to work under the programme to work hard to improve and increase school enrolment.
Meanwhile, the Techiman Municipal Planning Officer for the Ghana Education Service, Ms Henrietta Appiah Andam, has appealed to matrons, cooks, and teachers to solve any disputes among themselves.
She stressed that all headteachers should constantly update their students’ membership to help solve insufficient food challenges under the programme.
