GOD’S LAMENTATIONS THROUGH PROPHET ISAIAH

botchway July 30, 2019

PERISCOPE

“Hear, Oh heavens, and give ear, O earth: for the Lord has spoken; l have nourished and brought up children and they have rebelled against me.

The ox knoweth his owner and the ass its master’s crib, but Israel doth not know; my people doth not consider. Ah, sinful nation, a people laden with iniquity, a seed of evil doers, children that are corrupters: they have forsaken the Lord; they have provoked the Holy One of Israel unto anger; they are gone away backward….” – Isaiah 1:2-4.

Even though, God is known to be compassionate and companionable, He is very sensitive to acts of ungratefulness from the sons and daughters of this ephemeral life, whom He created in his own image and breathed into them the breath of life before they came to be livings souls.

What are some of these acts of ingratitude which seem to have offended Him to warrant the above-quoted tearful lamentations?

The behaviourial activities of politicians are our first port of call. This is because development and prosperity of this world are squarely on the shoulders of politicians. Unlike the old breed of politicians who selflessly fought to break the shackles of colonialism to set in motion ripples of freedom for many countries, the current breed of politicians or political personalities are mostly interested in using political positions to build their own nests. Thus, they leave the ruled to find their own daily morsels.

This offends God, the quintessence of goodness. The most shameful of it all is how some political figures are given the pride of place in churches, but outside the churches, their activities against society will make Lucifer himself weep.

We should simply remember that, since God created man in his own image, God is man and man is God, so that any offensive behaviour against a neighbour also offends God, who is resourceful in punishment.

Due to incompetent, avaricious, selfish and corrupt political politicians, politics has earned a name of disgrace, even though it is an important profession through which the world is taken care of by dedicated and visionary political leaders.

This world is God’s vineyard and to tend it with offensive conduct such as fornication, adultery, sodomy, contract killings, murder, false prophecies, corruption in all its ramifications, is capable of opening the floodgate to divine lamentations and tears, and this does not speak well of us.

Going down the memory lane, we realise that, before the flood in Noah’s time, God saw that man’s wickedness on earth was great and that “every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.”

He, therefore, regretted for ever creating man and the result was the punishment of flood.

Even though God fervently promised not to destroy the earth with flood again, He is resourceful in punishment. Let the Sons and Daughters of this world, therefore, forsake our bad ways and accept God as our Lord and Saviour and be our brother’s keeper, loving one another.

God is lamenting that we have rebelled against Him after “nourishing and bringing us up”. Let us, therefore, go down on our knees on stony grounds and, genuinely, with contrite hearts, say to Him, ” Lord we are sorry for our sins – contract killings, murder, sodomy, cheating of all sorts, adultery, envy, evils of political crabs, etc.” and so, please, forgive us. No more lamentations, dear God.
