Stories from Isaac Akwetey-Okunor
Tension and a state of insecurity is gradually brewing at Osiem, near Akyem Tafo in the Abuakwa North Municipality of the Eastern Region, following the alleged loss of three black stools belonging to the Osiem Amponfi Ahenfie.
Speaking to The Chronicle, the Abusuapanin, Gyamena Boateng of Otikrom, disclosed that the missing black stool has been reported to the Eastern Regional Police Command as far back 2017, but nothing has been done about it.
According to him, the chiefs and elders detected the theft after a delegation sent by the overlord of the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin, and elders of the Osiem Amponfi Ahenfie conducted an inventory of the stool room.
Following this development, the Otikrom Abusuapanin hinted that the Okyenhene, in consultation with his elders, ordered that an official report should be made to the police for investigations and the arrest of the culprit(s).
But before the police would launch investigations into the case and establish the whereabouts of the missing stool, the Queenmother of the area, Obaapanin Akosua Atwomaa, has claimed responsibility of the stools.
According to the Queenmother, she has the stools in her custody and dares anybody who is born of a woman to make a move in coming for the stools, adding that she would not give them out, since the current Chief, Osabarima Adjei Ameriku, is not the rightful person to ascend the throne.
The 43-year-old Queenmother has adamantly refused to give back the black stool to the palace irrespective of the numerous appeals from the Overlord of the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Area and other chiefs.
Obaapanin Akosua Atwomaa disclosed that it would be only after her dead body that the Okyenhene and Osiem Chief could get the black stool, since she did not consider the latter as the legitimate chief of the area.
Abusuapanin Gyamena Boateng of Otikrom warned that the elders of the area would deal drastically with the Queenmother, since it is a taboo for a woman in her prime and still menstruating to enter the stool room.
He continued that Akyem Abuakwa custom frowns on women going into the stool room, therefore, defiled the stool room and invited curses upon herself.
He further called the bluff of the Queenmother that she would not give the stools to the palace, adding that the palace would use all means possible to retrieve the stools from her.
When this reporter asked him when they intend going for the stool, he only responded: “A time will come when she will bring the stools. She is not above the law and tradition.”
When he was further asked about the legibility of the Chief, the Otikrom Abusuapanin disclosed that Osabarima Adjei Ameriku is more than qualified to ascend the throne, and called on the general public to treat the position of the Queenmother with contempt.
That notwithstanding, the Queenmother has vowed to oust the Chief from the palace in the coming days, a situation that would likely lead to bloodshed.
