The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Wenchi in the Bono Region, Dr. Prince Kwakye Afriyie, has cut the sod for construction works to commence on three toilet projects under the ‘$1 million per Constituency’ programme of the government.
The ceremony, which took place at Yoyoano, brought together Nananom (chiefs), technocrats of the assembly, as well as leadership of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Wenchi.
The projects are earmarked for Yoyoano, Nkonsia and Awisa.
Dr Kwakye Afriyie disclosed that the 10-seater toilets are solar energy powered and could easily be used by the disabled, adding that this is the first of its kind to be constructed in the municipality.
He mentioned that some additional benefits this social infrastructure project could bring include compost (organic manure), and bio gas among others.
He charged the contracting company (Mega Anagazo) to complete the project on schedule in order to serve the people.
He said this formed part of many other projects that are to take place in the municipality under the ‘$1 million per Constituency’ programme.
The MCE further asked the contractor to employ the labour force locally to serve as job creation and also boost the local economy.
The MCE noted that plans were far advanced to construct bore holes to serve the Subinso Health Centre, Nchiraa Senior High School and Nwoase communities.
The Unit Committee Secretary of Yoyoano thanked the government and Member of Parliament for their timely intervention.
He recalled that since the community was established there has never been any public toilet, and added that this would serve them as a community.
