In line with the government’s resolve to deepen the decentralisation process and local governance, 43 assembly members in the Wenchi Municipality in the Bono Region have received motorbikes to enable them discharge their civic duties as mandated by the local governance act.
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Dr Prince Kwakye Afriyie, on behalf of the government, presented the bikes to the Presiding Member of the Assembly, Samuel Mensah, who later distributed them to his colleagues.
The MCE advised the assembly members to use the motorbikes for the purpose for which they were given to facilitate the development of the municipality.
Dr Kwakye Afriyie also thanked technocrats in the Wenchi Municipal Assembly for their commitment, dedication and sacrifice, and expressed the hope that they would continue with that spirit in the coming years.
The Presiding Member, Samuel Mensah, commended the government for its commitment to resourcing the Assembly, and also making the members mobile to discharge their duties effectively.
He urged the members to be careful in using the motorbikes and abide by all road traffic regulations.
Mr. Mensah further commended the Minister for Planning, Prof. George Gyan Baffour, MP Wenchi, and the MCE, Dr. Prince Kwakye Afriyie, for their support to the Assembly over the years.
